The LIFE for Mauremys project was visited by the project monitor

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023. from 10 am to 3 pm, project LIFE for Mauremys had a first monitoring visit. Despite the restoration of the Faculty of Agriculture pavilions after the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquakes, the meeting was successfully organized in the Great Hall of the University. Project supervision was carried out by the project monitor Nikica Skroza. Representatives of all partner institutions presented their progress for the first five months of the project. In that period all necessary additional staff were employed (administrator, educator, animal keeper, two project assistants for habitats and volunteer coordination), project communication channels were set up, and the preparations for the assisted breeding of Balkan Terrapins were reported to be in their final stages. Design of a new type of by-catch free, turtle friendly fyke net is almost done and activities for improving habitat quality in NATURA 2000 areas in Dubrovnik-Neretva County are well on the way.
