Kick off meeting in Dubrovnik
On October 19-21, 2022, in the hall of the Dubrovnik Student Center, the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Nature Areas of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County organized a three-day partner meeting for project participants, and a press conference on Thursday, October 20, 9:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
After the welcoming speech of the director of the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Nature in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Marijana Miljas Đuračić, M.Sc. Silv., the start of the project was welcomed on behalf of the partner institutions by the Deputy General Director of Croatian Waters Valentin Dujmović, M.Sc. oecol., director of the City of Zagreb Zoo Damir Skok, DVM, director of the Hyla Association Ivona Burić, mag. oecol. et prot. nat., and on behalf of the coordinator institution, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Agriculture, vice-dean prof. Sandra Voća Ph.D.
The Prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, prof. Nikola Dobroslavić welcomed the project that deals with the preservation of the natural values of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and contributes to the development of sustainable tourism and agriculture.
Project manager, associate professor Dragica Šalamon Ph.D., referred to the basic goals of the project and information about the project. She pointed out that the LIFE program area, which insists on reconciling the differences between nature protection and production, and finds ways for the coexistence of biological diversity and sustainable food production, is not a new area of projects for the Faculty of Agriculture.
In partnership with other coordinators, the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb participated in the implementation of three LIFE projects:
Innovative Real-time Monitoring and Pest control for Insects, 2014
Grazing for wildfire prevention, ecosystem, service provision, nature conservation and landscape management, 2019
Dinara back to LIFE, 2020.
LIFE for Mauremys is the third project in a series of LIFE projects coordinated by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb. The previous two were:
2006 LIFE05 TCY/CRO/000105, Project Development of the Croatian Soil Monitoring Programme with a Pilot project
2014: LIFE13 ENV/HR/000580, Low pesticide IPM in sustainable and safe fruit production.
The project team started with the implementation of the planned project activities to achieve the three basic goals of the project. Head of public relations for LIFE for Mauremys, M.Sc. Davorka Maljković from the City of Zagreb Zoo, emphasized the joint work with all target stakeholders to achieve quality results.
