Hrvatske vode

Hrvatske vode is a legal entity for water management of rivers, lakes, coastal and transitional waters, as well as underground water.

The main tasks of Hrvatske vode are flood protection, water protection and all activities that are included within the River Basin Management Plans, such as monitoring of ecological and chemical status, ecological potential, mitigation and restoration measures. Hrvatske vode traditionally manage water resources and, as the leading national institution, are responsible for all aspects of water management in Croatia as an EU member state, have extensive experience in the WFD implementation and development of RBMPs.

Hrvatske vode has the needed technical experience for implementing the larger restoration activities, which are one of the core actions of this project. Project partnership also provides an opportunity for biodiversity mainstreaming, through cross-sectoral collaboration on defining the management practices that are biodiversity-friendly that will then be implemented in the future management and operational documents. Considering sometimes conflicting interests of different sectors, we are proud of this partnership, which will help both the nature protection and water management sectors work on their shared interests, and improve the collaboration. Vinko JURJEVIĆ, Civil engineer and territorial authority as Water management branch office “Dubrovačko primorje” leader, which is a part of Water Management Department for the Southern Adriatic Basins.

Ivana ČAGALJ, Finance, administration and certified public procurement specialist.

Marija ŠIKORONJA, Biology engineer, as an expert for ecological status responsible for the interpretation of data about the status of water and aquatic systems; participates in the preparation of the River Basin Management Plan and is responsible for harmonizing all the issues concerning the management of transitional and coastal waters.

Marija VIZNER, Agronomy engineer, editor-in-chief of the Hrvatska vodoprivreda journal; responsible for the implementation of water-related programmes intended for children
