Project partners and Advisory Board meeting
The partners and the Advisory Board of the LIFE for Mauremys project met on December 13 at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb to present the achievements so far and discuss upcoming challenges and activities necessary for the long-term sustainability of the project.
The Advisory Board, established in early 2024, is composed of seven experts from various sectors essential for the successful implementation of the project activities. Those in attendance at this meeting included:

Patricija Gambiroža, MSc, Head of the Department for Nature Restoration and Nature-Based Solutions, Institute for Nature Conservation and Protection, Ministry of Environment and Energy
Ivana Petrina, MSc, Head of the Sector for Resource, Fleet, and Fisheries Management, Ministry of Agriculture
Mila Preradović, MSc, Senior Expert Advisor in the Department for Protected Areas, Ministry of Environment and Energy
Sandra Sokolić, MSc, Head of the Department for Protection from Harmful Effects of Water, Water Resources, Irrigation, and Melioration Drainage, Ministry of Environment and Energy
Ante Vujević, Prof., replacement for Josip Suić, MSc, Head of the Department for Freshwater Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture
The goal of this collaboration is to ensure the high-quality implementation of the project and contribute to the conservation of the Balkan Terrapin and its habitat.
During the meeting, representatives from the project’s partner institutions presented the progress made so far, highlighted key challenges, and outlined planned activities. This set the stage for a discussion on the next steps for habitat protection and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project. With the expert guidance and advice of the Advisory Board, the collaboration will further strengthen the protection of this endangered species and its ecological role in Mediterranean wetland habitats.
