Picture book showcased in Zagreb Zoo

The children's picture book MAUREMISI: Raising Our Voices to Save the Turtle! traveled through Dalmatian schools and has now arrived in Zagreb. Students of Jure Kaštelan Elementary School had the opportunity to take part in a special presentation of the book at the Zagreb City Zoo.

Marija Vizner, a representative of Hrvatske Vode (Croatian Waters), along with the Balkan Terrapins Hrvoje and Mara, gave an engaging presentation about an exciting love story and a pond cleanup action, which will be enjoyed by the children who took the book home.

Following this, experts from the zoo introduced students to the world of Balkan Terrapins. They explained the breeding program conducted at the zoo and highlighted the main threats endangering this species in nature. Additionally, they emphasized the key conditions necessary for maintaining a stable Balkan Terrapin population. As a special highlight, students had the chance to see the area within the zoo where a new habitat for these endangered reptiles will be established in the spring.

The event was attended by Valentin Dujmović, Deputy General Director of Hrvatske Vode, Ivan Cizelj, Director of the Zagreb City Zoo, and around thirty students from the third to fifth grades of Jure Kaštelan Elementary School. The book promotion and educational presentation provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about the conservation of Balkan Terrapins and to inspire the younger generation to take an active role in protecting these vulnerable creatures.
