The team from the Zagreb Zoo partnered with the Association “Film School Šipan”, organizers of the Šipan Summer Film School (LJŠFŠ), to collaborate with their mentors and participants in creating the first Croatian animated film about the Balkan Terrapin.

During the workshop, held from August 4th to 18th, 2024, participants Natalija Ljubišić, Sara Brajović, Vesna Vlahović, Dora Bašić, Davor Cvjetković, Jakša Marušić, Mia Burum, Jakov Brajović, Katija Vlahović, Noa Vetma, Marko Matić, Ella Canel, Mia Franjušić Husković, Đuro Labaš, Matija Milko, and Noemi Švarc worked diligently on a project that will serve as the foundation for the final animated film as part of the LIFE for Mauremys project.

The workshop was designed in line with the goals of the “Škola filma Šipan” association, which aims to provide children and young people with a professional environment for developing and realizing their creative ideas. Through an intensive two-week program, the participants, guided by experts from the film industry – directors, screenwriters, and editors – went through all stages of film production, from scriptwriting to animation. Workshop leaders Lorena Ivanović and Nikola Kapidžić, with their professional expertise and educational approach, enabled the young creatives to bring their ideas to life.

Congratulations to the Šipan Summer Film School team, who, in just two weeks, created an amazing short film that will continue to evolve into a final educational animated film about the Balkan Terrapin, named Mara, in the coming months.

In the meantime, check out the film produced during the workshop:
